Welcome to the
Fossickers Way Tourist Route - one of the most picturesque trails in NSW.
There's Fossicking, of course, with a huge variety of precious and semi-precious
gems be to found in well organised fossicking areas and on private property.
 
And there's a touch of
history in every town along the Way. Well preserved heritage buildings with
modern shopping centres offer the best of both worlds. But the best loved
attraction of the Fossickers Way is the hospitality visitors experience as they
travel through the eight shires linked by an excellent sealed road system. The
drives starts off the New England Highway to Nundle, thence Tamworth, Manilla,
Barraba, Bingara, and Warialda before turning onto the Gwydir Highway for
Inverell to rejoin the New England Highway at Geln Innes. All stops are about 30
minutes apart allowing for a relaxed place without the stress of hours on the
road.
 
Nundle
Today Gold can be found
in the creeks and rivers of the Nundle Shire, along with the most beautiful
quartz, crystals and semi precious stones such as sapphires, zircons, jasper,
prase, rhodonite and green crystals - just to nemae a few.Good to Know: Hanging
Rock: Only 11 km from Nundle, Hanging Rock is on the plateau 1100 meters above
sea level.
Tamworth
The climate is conducive
to a relaxed, outdoor way of life. In January, the average temperature range is
between 32 C (max) and 17 C (min), and in July between 16 C and 3
C. One of the best gem and mineral collections in the country is beautifully
displayed at the Tamworth Country Collection on New England Highway.

Good to Know: The
golden guitar: Best known as the Country Music Capital of Australasia,
Tamworth draws some 50,000 visitors each year to its internationally
acclaimed ten day Country Music Festival in January. But there's much more
to Tamworth than Country Music.More than 150 parks totalling 120ha provide
opportunities for passive and active recreation for the people of
Tamworth.
